WildBlue modem 9000 about the size of any standard cable-modem. The modem connects to a PC or Mac much the same way a cable or DSL modem - via the RJ-45/ethernet port of a networking card.
The SurfBeam® subscriber terminal for wireless broadband services is a compact, easy-to-install terminal that delivers fast two-way data by satellite. The terminal will seamlessly integrate into a homebased network with its built-in Ethernet interface (10/100 Mbps).
The complete terminal includes the indoor unit and a small, non-obtrusive outdoor antenna. The 2-watt or 4-watt power amplifier (SSPA) and Low Noise Block (LNB) transmits data at rates above 1 Mbps and receives at rates up to 72 Mbps. ViaSat’s SurfBeam subscriber terminal provides fast, reliable, high-quality bandwidth-on-demand for a variety of digital communication services.
Installations of the NetModem II Plus generally take less than four hours. All that is required at the site is electricity for the indoor unit and rooftop access for the antenna. The iDirect Technologies solution is so advanced that remote sites do not even require an exterior electrical power supply. And, all that is needed to integrate the system with the on-site LAN is a standard Ethernet 10/100 Mbps LAN interface.
The iDirect NetModem II and II+ broadband routers, now replaced by the iNFINITI product line, are a simple "one box" solution that provides enterprise-class IP transport and traffic management over satellite networks. The NetModem II and II+ are compact set-top terminals that deliver a satellite modem, IP router, TCP optimization over satellite, and QoS/prioritization all in one easy to deploy solution. Because it is highly scalable for both inbound and outbound data rates, it allows users to easily accommodate current and future bandwidth requirements.

Components include an Outdoor Unit (ODU) similar to a DTH satellite television dish, but with transmit capabilities, and an Indoor Unit (IDU) comparable in size and function to a desktop ADSL or cable modem. The ODU includes a compact satellite reflector and feed, transmit and receive electronics, and an associated mounting kit to affix the unit to the customer’s home.
The IDU is just 23 by 23 by 3.8 cm (9 by 9 by 1.5 inches) with a sleek design to fit with other modern personal computing and telecommunications equipment, and interfaces to the customer’s computer or home network via a standard Ethernet connection. The IDU may be oriented on the customer’s desktop either horizontally or vertically to preserve desk space. Two cables connect the indoor and outdoor units.
Adding unique firmware and a satellite Intermediate Frequency interface to the latest in Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) and DTH chipsets gives you the 9000 ST (ViaSat SurfBeam subscriber terminal). The high degree of integration and high volume production of the chipsets greatly reduces the costs of the satellite modem.
