ViaSat Linkstar S2 is the latest advanced satellite transmission technique from DVB, improving on and expanding the range of applications possible with DVBs tried
and trusted DVB-S.
ViaSat's newly enhanced LinkStarS2 VSAT networking system incorporates the new DVB-S2 waveform, offering up to 30% greater bandwidth efficiency and substantially reducing network operating costs. The S2-capable LinkStar hub integrates remote LinkWayS2 mesh VSAT terminals into the same network, enabling flexible hybrid star/mesh network architectures.
LinkStarS2 and LinkWayS2 can now interoperate seamlessly, offering maximum network design flexibility. ViaSat's LinkWay broadband IP mesh network is meeting the needs of business, military, and government clients with applications ranging from broadband IP enterprise networks to distance learning. The addition of a DVB-S2 receiver to LinkWay enables hybrid star/mesh networks managed by a single LinkStarS2 hub.
The LinkStar S2 system builds on the leading DVB-RCS capable VSAT system, with over 100 networks and 75,000 remote terminals worldwide. The new S2-capable LinkStar S2 hubs and remote terminals are compatible with standard DVB-S LinkStar remotes and offer a simple, cost effective transition to the benefits of DVB-S2.
DVB-S2 is the latest advance in transmission technique from the Digital Video Broadcasting Project industry consortium and features a variety of technology enhancements over the current DVB-S standard. The new standard is designed to cut the cost-per-bit to transmit data by satellite by providing more efficient use of satellite transponders.
ViaSat has a full line of VSAT products for data and voice applications, and is a market leader in Ka-band satellite systems, from user terminals to large gateways.
S2 system is a two-way, bandwidth-on-demand broadband VSAT system designed around the DVB-RCS standard for service providers, ISPs, and corporate networks. Linkstar S2 brings more efficiency and higher data rates to the market than other TDMA systems. The new S2 Broadband VSAT System combines broadband access and a high-speed return channel to satisfy bandwidth-intensive applications using IP data over any fixed satellite.
Since their introduction, LinkStar® VSATs have been built on a foundation of open standard DVB technology, including a DVB-S or DVB-S2 forward link and DVB-RCS return link. A LinkStar-S2 terminal can operate in either of two over-the-air downloadable software personalities. The DVB-RCS software enables interoperability with other manufacturers. The standard LinkStar e-ATM software includes additional advanced features not included in the DVB-RCS standard.
The linkstar S2 system compliant technology includes advanced LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) coding for ultra-low Eb/No performance near Shannon's theoretical limit along with 8PSK coding for bandwidth reductions up to 30% below traditional values. It offers satellite link speeds up to 81 Mbps on the outbound channel and up to 4.2 Mbps on the inbound channels to the hub. With this high inbound channel capacity, remote sites can be server locations, content providers, multimedia sources, video teleconferencing participants, and corporate headquarters.
The LinkStarS2 and LinkWayS2 systems bring you an unparalleled combination of satellite communications technology, advanced IP routing, quality of service, data acceleration, and compression in two complementary platforms. Your IP applications will seamlessly integrate via satellite through the use of industry standards such as DVB-S, DVB-S2, and DVB-RCS.
Enterprise applications benefit most from the hub-spoke (star) LinkStarS2 system, while the LinkWayS2 system is best for applications requiring single-hop, mesh connections directly between remote sites.
