What is Global
Positioning System ?
Trying to figure out where you are
and where you're going is probably one of man's oldest pastimes.
Navigation and positioning are crucial to so many activities and yet
the process has always been quite cumbersome. Finally, the U.S.
military decided that they had to have a super precise form of
worldwide positioning. And fortunately they had the kind of money
($12 billion!) it took to build something really good. The result is
the Global Positioning System, a system that's changed navigation
forever.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide
radio-navigation system formed from
a constellation of 24 satellites and their ground stations. GPS uses
these "man-made stars" as reference points to calculate
positions accurate to a matter of meters. In fact, with advanced
forms of GPS you can make measurements to better than a centimeter!
In a sense it's like giving every square meter on the planet a
unique address. GPS receivers have been miniaturized to just a few
integrated circuits and so are becoming very economical. And that
makes the technology accessible to virtually everyone. These days
GPS is finding its way into cars, boats, planes, construction
equipment, movie making gear, farm machinery, even laptop computers.
Soon GPS will become almost as basic as the telephone.
What is iNetVu Navigator?
iNetVu Navigator is a software-based travel planning system designed for people on the move! It's integrated with the Microsoft MapPoint 2002 software application. It uses the iNetVu Mobile system's built-in Global Positioning System (GPS) and requires no additional hardware or wiring. It provides you with the ability to track and display your precise location on its map - even if the iNetVu dish is in use during an Internet session. It even works when the dish is stowed and you're moving along the highway!
Because iNetVu Navigator can show you in any instant where you are, planning a stop for fuel, food or even a local attraction becomes easy!
Use
iNetVu Navigator's easy access toolbar to:
Locate
nearby places and locations of interest (gas
stations, restaurants, etc.) within a predetermined radius. As you
travel along your route, these locations will be flagged on your
computer screen as they "enter" your chosen search radius.
Get
accurate, easy-to-follow directions, that
start from wherever you happen to be at that time. And, because
MapPoint is aware of one-way systems and other restrictions, it'll
plan a route appropriately.
Keep
a trip log. When enabled, Navigator will track
everywhere you've been, right up to your current location.
Find
out what destinations are possible to reach within a specific time
frame. Suppose you're
on the road in an unfamiliar town and you're ready to eat dinner.
You decide you want steak and seafood and want to find out how many
steak or seafood restaurants are within a 10 minute drive from your
current location. Obtaining this information is a snap! With a few
mouse clicks, you'll be given the restaurant names, directions to
get to them and even their telephone numbers.
... and so much more!
iNetVu
customers now have the option of purchasing iNetVu Navigator, a
revolutionary travel planning system designed for RV owners.
iNetVu Navigator is an optional software package that integrates a built-in Global
Positioning System (GPS) with Microsoft's MapPoint application.
The result?
The MapPoint location map is graphically displayed on the screen of your computer with
your current location marked on it. Navigator works regardless of whether or not your
iNetVu dish is stowed or extended, constantly updating your position, even as you
move! This way, even if you're lost, you can still find your way!
Navigator can be used to plan the quickest route to a desired destination. It's even is
aware of one-way systems in downtown and other areas and plans your route
accordingly. Once the desired destination has been set, the route is then clearly shown
on the map as well as the travel time.
